The new golf season is just around the corner and there are exciting plans for our club in 2017. As Chairman of your Management Committee I’d like to tell you about them.
As well as our comprehensive set of men’s, women’s, juniors and mixed competitions we have plans for our course, our clubhouse and our golf shop.
We have a real desire to get our course to the highest possible standard, and we’re making great progress with our winter maintenance program – particularly with the bunkers. The overall tidiness of our course is also encouraging, especially while the weather has been challenging. In February we have a very respected and highly qualified agronomist visiting us. An Agronomist is a specialist soil and plant scientist and their visit will help us finalise our maintenance plan for 2017. The 6th, 15th and 16th greens will take priority during the agronomist’s visit, and we expect a program of intense work to improve the health of these putting surfaces.
We’re investing in a micro tine machine which will be regularly used to put pencil sized aeration holes into the greens. To work with the micro tine machine we’re also investing in a special brush and fill machine that gets dressing deep into the aeration holes. This aeration work using these machines will hardly be noticeable but will significantly improve the health and performance of the greens all year round. So, we can all look forward to a well presented course in great playing condition this summer.
If you’ve been to the club you’ll have noticed the interior decoration of the clubhouse has given a real lift to the building. We’ve also fitted new external lights to brighten the approach to the clubhouse from the car park, and fitted new flood lights above the patio – this will give a great view of the putting green and course after dark. We also have plans to redecorated the exterior of the clubhouse in the spring, and will then be looking into replacing the furniture and carpets.
Your golf shop
We’re about to start an extremely exciting redevelopment of our golf shop which will give us a new golf reception operation and a large new retail space full of all the latest and best products. Not only that but we’re planning a state of the art indoor club fitting and teaching studio to be operated by our PGA Pro Lee. Our aim is to get this all in place before the start of the golf season, and ultimately to have the best facilities in Oxford.
An exciting time to be a member
As well as all this we’re working on some exciting new marketing to keep our club moving forward – we’ll keep you posted over the year. So as you can see there’s lots of great things already happening and that are planned at the club, and there are great incentives to renew your membership in February or March too – ask Sue or Philip to find out more.
The days are getting longer and the golf season is on the way – we can all look forward to great golf and great socialising this year at your home for golf.
