Next Sunday 24th September a team from North Oxford are taking part in one of the Memory Walks. This will take place in Oxford University parks from 11am and is organised by the Alzheimer’s Society, to develop awareness and raise money for research into dementia.
Every three minutes someone is diagnosed with dementia and the disease affects 1 in 14 people over 65, this ratio increases dramatically with age. It is also the leading cause of death in women in the UK. Despite the funding for research, investment in dementia is seven times lower than it is for cancer. There is no cure and no effective treatment for dementia. It is a dreadful disease that is likely to touch all of us in some way, some day.
