If you’d like to keep your golfing prowess going through the autumn and winter, then come and play in our Winter Challenge Men’s Pairs Competition. It’s really easy to enter and take part.
The Winter Challenge is a Men’s Pairs Competition (we can find you a partner). There are nine Winter Challenge weekends from October to January, and each pair enters their best five scores (which is why you can start later than Round 1 and you can play fewer than all nine rounds).
The Winter Challenge format is “Better Ball Pairs Stableford”
Better Ball Pairs
This is where two golfers play as a team. Each golfer plays his or her own ball throughout. On each hole, the two golfers in a team compare scores, and the lower of the two net scores – the better ball – counts as the team’s score for that hole.
This is a scoring system where, rather than counting the total number of strokes taken, you score points based on your score against Par at each hole. Based on your net score (ie: your score with your handicap) each player scores one point for a net Bogey, two points for a Par, three points for a Birdie, four points for an Eagle and five points for an Albatross. The aim is to get as many points as possible.
The top 16 pairs
After the ninth round in January the top 16 pairs qualify for the next stage which is a matchplay knockout format – more of that nearer the time.
How to enter
Just sign up in The Golf Reception when you play your first round, and then pay your entry fee each time you play. You can see which weekends are Winter Challenge weekends in the first tee calendar or in your printed diary.
