North Oxford senior members took part in the 38th staging of the Rhys Richards Trophy, played at Leighton Buzzard Golf Club, finishing in a worthy second place. The trophy is played between the four clubs which the late Rhys Richards deemed to be the best he had played on in the area – Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands, North Oxford, Stowe and Leighton Buzzard.
This year’s event resulted in a victory for the home team, with 206 points. Second was North Oxford with 190 points, with Aspley Guise third on 183 points and Stowe fourth on 173 points. The North Oxford team was Alan Dachtler (captain), Richard Budgen, Ian Hardy, John Nason, John O’Sullivan and David Wynne-Jones. Richard Budgen won the prize for the best individual score with 41 stableford points.
North Oxford Seniors have been busy with friendly matches in recent weeks, with mixed results. North Oxford drew 3-3 away to Drayton Park beat Burford away 4 and a half to one and a half, and lost 3-2 away to Oxford City.
