Eight mixed pairs travelled to Newbury & Crookham last Sunday, 28th October to play the last Mixed Match of the season. Luckily we had an extra hour in bed to cope with the early start and although it was a cold, wintry day it stayed dry.

While playing Greensomes the highlight of the day was Stuart’s shot into the par 3 ninth hole, with his partner Ros Morris watching in delight as the ball trickled down and into the hole. Needless to say this spurred them on to win their match 3&2. The only other victory for North Oxford came from from Sian Lewis and Mark Wharton with a well fought game, winning on the last. So sadly a 6 – 2 win for the home team.

The golf was followed by a formal two course dinner hosted by Newbury & Crookham’s Vice Captains. They didn’t let Stuart’s feat go unrewarded and presented him with a towel and ball marker. Peter Clements is pictured presenting these to Stuart – a lovely gesture to compliment his success and acknowledge his kindness in supplying the wine at the table.
